Peace Talks

  The entire peace agreement actually consists of a number of different accords, each dealing with a separate topic.

First signed was the Framework Accord in January 1994, which set up the rules and players of the negotiations. Following this came:

The Comprehensive Human Rights Accord (March 1994: Mexico City),

The Agreement for the Resettlement of Populations Uprooted by the Armed Confrontation (June 1994: Oslo),

The Accord on the Establishment of the Commission for the Historical Clarification fo Human Rights Violations and Acts of Violence which have Caused Suffering to the Guatemalan People (June 1994: Oslo),

The Accord for the Identity and Rights of the Indigenous Peoples (March 1995: Mexico City).

The Accord on Socioeconomic Aspects and the Agrarian Situation (May 1996: Mexico City).

The Accord on the Strengthening of Civil Power and the Function of the Army in a Democratic Society (September 1996: Mexico City).

The Operational Accords, which dealt with affirming a definitive cease-fire, certain constitutional reforms and the reincorporation of URNG rebels into civilian life. (December 1996: Oslo, Stockholm, and Madrid)
