Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unit

The URNG was formed in 1982 when four guerrilla organizations (FAR, ORPA, EGP, and PGT) joined together under one umbrella group. This action was taken in light of the increasing counter insurgency-related repression both in the countryside and in urban areas.
