Mutual Support Group (GAM)

The GAM (or Grupo de Apoyo Mutuo in Spanish) is one of Guatemala's most visible human rights organizations. Formed by the wives and mothers of "disappeared" students and union members in mid-1984, the group grew in membership as repression continued and people recognised the strength to be gained in numbers.
The above photo shows GAM members, along with other human rights activists, marching against the "disappearances" in Guatemala City.
