Plenty has been written on the topic of Guatemalan history. Following are some of the sources we used for the information presented within:
Jean-Marie Simon's Guatemala: Eternal Spring, Eternal Tryranny (W.W.Nortonn, 1987) Excellent documentation of the Lucas Garcia dictatorship through the election of Vinicio Cerezo.
Victor Perera's Unfinished Conquest: The Guatemalan Tragedy (University of California Press, 1993) offers a wonderfully written account of the author's travels throughout Guatemala, his homeland.
Clifford Krauss' Inside Central America: Its People, Politics and History (Summit Books, 1991) includes a chapter on Guatemala and a short history.
George Black's The Good Neighbor: How the United States Wrote the History of Central America and the Caribbean (Pantheon Books, 1988) is worth checking out for a general overview of the U.S. role in the region.
