How to Download the GRE Essay Topics (Prompts)

For the GRE Analytical Writing section, the testing system randomly selects two GRE essay topics (prompts) — one for the "Analyze an Issue" task and one for the "Analyze an Argument" task — from two different pools. Each pool contains more than a hundred essay prompts.

You can view and download the complete, current list of topics at the official GRE website. The list of essay topics is publicly available, free of charge. You do not need to register for the GRE in order to access this information.

To locate the list of GRE essay topics at the official GRE website, from the site's home page click through to About the Test, then to GRE Test Content and Structure, and then to Analytical Writing section, where you'll find a link to two pages listing the essay topics.
