Brain cell Color/Pattern association


This is a GIF animation. If the pattern does not cycle between a horizontal red bar and a vertical green bar pattern, switch to a browser that supports such things.

Instructions:

  1. Stare at the changing pattern above for a few minutes, to "train" your brain.
  2. Scroll down to the image below. It is uncolored. See if you can detect traces of color that your brain is placing into the image.

More Info:

  1. If you don't see any colors you may not have observed the color-changing bars for long enough.
  2. This is more than simple retinal fatigue. The effect can last up to a week or more! The brain cells in the visual cortex are actually being programmed as you stare at the color-changing pattern.
