Winter 2003

We begin the New Year on an optimistic note, with a feature on the painted hospital chapels of western Michoacán, several of which have recently been under conservation, thus rescuing this unique segment of Mexico's colonial heritage from certain decay and eventual destruction.

Much work remains to be done, but a start has been made. Now, many of this gems of colonial art have been restored and are open for all to appreciate. We encourage you to visit them for yourself. Our main focus is on the decoration of the hospital chapel at Nurio and the adjacent monastery church, but we provide links to other restored chapels in the region.

NOTE: our ordering page was indisposed during late December and early January. This has now been fixed. We apologize, and encourage you to now send in those orders you may have been unable to place. We are continuing our year end book offer (see below).
