Joy Burnworth

Joy has longed to be artificial and processed but from living on severely flat land and watching the corn grow, this Indiana girl always goes back to what is real. She digs the organic, heart felt music she grew up with. Her latest effort entitled “Unraveled” reflects her no gimmicks attitude. Listening to her music you will be reminded of Joni Mitchell, overtones of Led Zepplin and currently a little Joan Osborn but you’ll never forget it’s Joy you’re listening to.

In the beginning all the girl wanted to do was sing. However after being in L.A. for just a few years, she realized she would always be out of control if she didn’t take it. Every producer she came in contact with was more fanatical about her hair and image than whether the tunes were working with her style and vocal personality. It wasn’t until her mentor Lis Lewis saw some of her lyrics and asked “What are you waiting for?” Joy sang R&B and Blues but her lyrics told stories lending themselves to rock or folk. Lis said put a groove under your stories and her first album was born “Stories with a groove” Joy liked what she heard but musically she wasn’t convinced her lyrics fit in the R&B format. With her new co-writer Howard Anderson she has perfected her style and sound. The contrast of Joy’s soulful voice lying on a bed of acoustic and electric guitars gives the music the unpredictability she was looking for. “Unraveled” is Joy’s tribute to finding herself and the music that moves her spirit.
