WB6RDV Turnstile Antenna

Designed by Jay Hennigan, WB6RDV, these are the same type of antennas I've been using for about seven years for both championship and practice ARDF (Amateur Radio Direction Finding) hunts. These are horizontally polarized omindirectional antennas as specified in the IARU R1 ARDF rules.

The range will depend on the input power, type of terrain, and placement in that terrain. Using the MicroHunt transmitters (50 mW output), typical range is:\

For best results, the antenna should be mounted at least 6 feet above the ground. The lower it is placed, the more the signal is radiated upwards with a reduction in ground level range.

If you prefer to build your own, plans for the turnstile antennas are available on Jay's website.
