Searching for long-lost Crosses, Moneypennys, Weimers, Geigers and Boltzs.
The Crosses and Moneypennys all came to Kansas from England, Scotland and Ireland via Virginia (West Virginia). The most famous Moneypenny, at least to me, was the ever popular Napoleon Bonaparte Moneypenny. Napoleon joined the Union forces from West Virginia in the summer of 1861 and died in September of 1861. I believe that he died from one of the numerous outbreaks of influenza that were prevalent at the time.
The Boltz, Weimer and Geiger Families all started out in Germany in the middle 1700's and came to the United States looking for farm land and religious freedom. They settled in Pennsylvania, migrated to Ohio, and ended up in Iowa County, IA in the 1850's. Most recently I interviewed several members of the Boltz family, none have been in Church recently and most couldn't identify large farm implements.
This is a picture of downtown BOLTZ, PA.

What a garden spot. As you can tell from the caption, some folks call it Charles, but who in their right mind would call a city, Charles?

I have a special interest in marginally famous Kansans: Goat Glands Brinkley, Rusty Warren, Bob Dole, and several others.
Well I've broken 95, gotten a hole in one and I'm too young to think of shooting my age. I guess my next golf goal is to play with Julie Inkster
Anything by Tom Clancy, Molly Ivins, Dick Snider and Alistar McLean will occupy my interest. Emily Dickenson, ee cummings, Lillian Hellman and John Steinbeck all have imprinted their words in my mind.
Marcia Muller is my all current favorite. When I grow up I hope I turn out to be Sharon McCone. If you like San Francisco and uppity women, buy her books.

This is a Lake Superior Agate that I found in Northeastern Kansas. My Dad was a rockhound with a special interest in the Lake Superior Agates that rode to Kansas on the glacier, way back when. If you are interested in Agates you can check out Roger Pabians work at The Agate Page If you are interested in reading more about Lake Superior Agates, try Scott Wolters Book, THE LAKE SUPERIOR AGATE, available from Burgess Publishing, Edina MN. Prof. James Aber, Emporia State University, Emporia, KS, has an online course introducing the Ice Age from a physical science viewpoint. Look it up it's great. You can learn just exactly how those agates got to Kansas, and who was there when they arrived. THE ICE AGE
