Question of the Week

sherlock holmes with pipe

Q: Ever need to find a word? Do you ever want a new word for a new idea, a feeling or concept, or for a new use of old words?

A: We are growing at a rapid pace in today's society, and almost daily, I find myself saying, "I need a new word for that!"

Often the answer is found in reevaluating how I use words, and scrubbing out old concepts and meanings that may be out of date, born out of half-knowledge, or just plain erroneous interpretations of words.

But if you are someone interested in the meanings and usages of words, and you feel you'd like to add some new words to your vocabulary, do visit Paul McFedries' website, The Word Spy. You can sign up to receive a new word a day by e-mail, if you like. He calls it "lexpionage", a noun meaning "the sleuthing of new words and of old words used in new ways".

OK you alpha pups, get out there and sleuth!
