Student's Question of the Week

scales of justiceQ: How do I know what my rights and responsibilities are under the law? What laws apply to students in college?

A: The Institute of Learning at the University of Kansas created a series of brochures for students in college that will be featured here in the Question of the Week series. One of them describes the rights and responsibilities of students with disabilities.

One of your rights is equal access to a postsecondary education and to have access to appropriate accommodations that will enable you to participate in the functions and activities of the school. You need to disclose that you have a disability and request an accommodation. You can use the practical checklist provided in the following link when you are at college. To go directly to the information on all of these subjects, click here. You can print the page out and fill in information, if you would like to keep a copy.

This link allows you to access all of the student brochures in either html (for easier reading online) or pdf (the pdf version is printable and can be folded to turn into a brochure).
