Student's Question of the Week

Q: What are some common "myths" about college life?
A: Ever feel lonely, as if you have to do it all alone, a single individual amidst the crowd? One of the common myths (myths in the sense of non-facts) about college life is that you are like a lone poppy that grows in the hard and stony ground, and that you can only ask for advice or help in extreme situations.
In ancient and modern cultures, many people take this time of the season to review what is real and unreal, beneficial and tacky, and make some decisions about the direction for the new year.
Reviewing the past saves time because patterns can be identified that make it easier to think effectively, without relying totally on "trial and error". Sometimes patterns arise from basic ideas or values we take for granted; by looking at our assumptions, it is possible to free our minds from a lot of unnecessary myths, routinized responses and we can become more pro-active.
