Question: What is it?
Answer:
The Pleides Star Cluster, sometimes called the 7 Sisters, courtesy of one of our best educational resources in the cosmos, NASA - the visuals are great!!!.
Are you wondering what this has to do with you?
It's an analogy, or a comparison between two things that seem different, but share some things in common so we can see a relationship.
You are a star. Why? Because you are a self-motivated, self-starting agent that gives off lots of energy, just like stars generate light, heat, and many types of energy.
What kind of galaxy or cluster do you exist within? Do you have several good friends, like the Seven Sisters of the Pleides suggest? Or are you a spiral galaxy, with a really well defined support system, moving in harmonious orbit around a hidden center? Or are you more like a globular cluster, you balance your involvements and activities well? Might you be more like an irregular galaxy, meaning you are still in the process of creative formation and may be subject to the influence of gravity from nearby objects?
Whichever you might be, if any of these seem to fit, it is a good idea to find some friends with whom you could make a study group, or a person with whom you could talk about the ideas and work in your class(es). It just seems to work well for students to form their own support systems. (Ask Janet Shapiro, DSPS Coordinator, about her research on Self-Advocacy sometime.)
