1. Provide a schedule of assignments for the semester.
2. Provide a variety of different kinds of assignments.
3. Notify students of assignments verbally, on the board, and on handouts.
4. Repeat important directions and instructions.
5. Be sure you have the student's attention before you give directions.
6. Limit the number of assignments that you give at any one time.
7. Keep assignments short or break longer ones into less frustrating shorter parts.
8. Ask students to paraphrase their understanding of what they heard (when possible).
9. Model paraphrasing by restating the content of their verbal responses, when appropriate. Provide feedback by mirroring back what you think they said.
