Teacher's Question of the Week

Q: What are the findings of research regarding accommodations for college students with disabilities? Is there any difference between perceptions of and attitudes toward invisible vs. visible disabilities?

A: Click here to go to a PowerPoint presentation on "The Individual Accommodations Model: Accommodating Students with Disabilities in Post-Secondary Settings". The slide show summarizes research findings and resource materials designed in response to the research, both of which were created by the Center for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas. There is a difference between how students with visible or sensory disabilities, such as those using a wheelchair, a walking cane, seeing eye dog or interpreter, are treated compared with students with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and ADD/ADHD.
