In A Heartbeat
All that is left
is a heart beat
and I don't even know if it's mine
It could be a brother's, a child or a lover's
a husband's or something divine
All that's left is a heart beat
a swish, a pound, a sign
that
something's there
to handle with care
that breaks when life is unkind
All that's left is a heart beat
I sense it and feel it and pine
for a time when i knew
it was beating for two
and the two became one
for all time
