(Eng.), N. Warner (F. Arts)
1. Minutes- were reviewed and approved (10-22-07)
2. SLO record keeping and mapping strategies- there was general participant
discussion about the challenges of finding an appropriate, time effective way
to document the SLO’s, rubrics, and reporting systems. Nina Warner, and
Anita Cruse gave specific examples about how they handle record keeping, and
their strategies for courses that they currently have SLO’s for.
a. Anita presented a form that she has been using for her English course. She
uses a micrograde and excel format, and uses a very workable chart with the
SLO’s and associated rubrics, with an evaluative grade next to them (see
attached). Anita then can summarize the SLO information on the back of the same
form for reporting purposes. Anita plans to add a column for comments when she
revises it.
b. Nina share her SLO form and discussed the pros and cons for an art courses
she teaches. Nina finds the record keeping a challenge, and uses a Micrograde
format that has the SLO’s and assignments (portfolios) with associated
rubrics. The art department is formulating departmental SLO’s using a
flow sheet.
c. Jodi discussed that she has been successful using a color-coding approach
for documenting and reporting her SLO’s and rubrics using a simple spreadsheet.
3. Institutional SLO’s- Chairs will be directed to map departmental SLO’s
to ISLO’s. Mark Ferrer explained that there will be a menu of ISLO’s
available through “Banner”, and it should be a trouble free process
with a drop down bar and clicking on the appropriate ISLO, when creating departmental
SLO’s.
4. Other business- Gerry Lewin highly recommends a video on the FRC website
entitled “Making Lectures More Meaningful”.
