Scuba Diving is my absolute favorite outdoor activity! Every year I spend a few weeks diving the clear warm waters of the Caribbean. For trip reports just click on the highlighted destinations.
The best location I've visited is Roatan,
in the Bay Islands off Honduras (Central America). The diving
is excellent with tons of marine life. The people are extremely
friendly and the atmosphere is completely relaxing.
In 1994 I tried the diving on Ambergris Caye,
a small island off the coast of Belize (Central America). The
under water atmosphere was similar to Roatan but not as impressive.
I've heard that the dive spots located in the outer cayes are
much better than what you find right around Ambergris.
In 1993 I went diving in Bonaire, located
in the Netherlands Antilles off the coast of Venezuela (South
America). The diving here didn't even compare to Roatan, but we
did see whale sharks (from the boat)!
Of course we also dive right here at home in Santa Barbara
and at the Channel Islands. The biggest differences between here
and the Caribbean are the water temperature (typically around
58 degrees F here vs. 86+ degrees there!), the marine life, and
kelp.
