"I think the diversity problem can be described by what an officer at a corporation I worked for said when there were eighteen officers, fifteen white males, two men of color, and me. He was one of the white males. I was talking about hiring the best candidate for the job. He said, `You know, there is never a single best candidate for the job. What I always do is narrow the pool of qualified candidates down to the top two or three. Then I pick the one most like me.'"
