The plaque in the background, bearing the names of the fifteen men who died in the crash of their B-25, was first dedicated and affixed to the exterior wall of the chapel seven months after the end of WWII in Europe, in grateful remembrance, by the French community. 1LT Peter L. Whelan is listed among the names.

The plaque reads as follows:
