Planning Behavior: General Guidelines

1. Establish goals.

2. Select strategies.

3. Allot time: make a plan of action that incorporates the appropriate strategies over time.

4. Activate and monitor a plan of action and make changes when necessary.

5. Evaluate plan's success or failure for future application.

 

Time Management Tools: How to Stay Organized

1. Keep short-term, monthly and long-term planners.

2. Fill in guidelines weekly using syllabi.

3. Focus on study time designation daily.

4. Make a checklist to evaluate self & plan for tomorrow.

5. List duties and prioritize (A, B, C columns for priorities).

6. Use "Course Outline" (study vocabulary, concepts, questions).

7. Use "Time Traveler's Guide" & "Project Planning Guide".

 

Monitoring and Motivation: Keep Moving and Learning

1. Make inventory and engage in self-evaluation of time use. Account for time use and develop metacognition, which involves self-monitoring and awareness of how one approaches learning.

2. Write down future goals.

3. Select rewards: external, internal (or take-aways). Eg. Put money in a jar every time you find yourself procrastinating, and give it away, or give it back to yourself after completing task.

4. Acknowledge changes in self-esteem & sense of responsibility as time management methods are used and results are beginning to show.
