Meardy Faculty Award Dr. Jody Millward, SBCC Professor of English, has been named recipient of the 2002 ACCT William H. Meardy Faculty Award by the Board of Directors of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). The national award is given to one community college faculty member each year as ACCT's recognition that "the central purpose of our community colleges is teaching and learning; and achievement of excellence in that purpose relates directly to the quality of our faculty." The award began in 1982 and is named in honor of ACCT's founding executive director, William H. Meardy, who championed the concept of faculty excellence as the foundation of success of the community college movement. Jody is the fourth recipient from California. The award will be presented during the General Session Luncheon at the ACCT's Annual Convention in September in Philadelphia. Jody is Chair of the Two-Year College Association (TYCA), the two-year college association within the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), the umbrella group which includes K-College English members. As Chair of TYCA, she is an executive board member of NCTE and of College Composition and Communication (CCC). Congratulations to Dr. Jody Millward for her outstanding active leadership on behalf of teaching and learning.

Click on the icon to begin the Powerpoint presentation. Susan Broderick, R.N., Director of SBCC's Student Health Services, initiated Service Learning at SBCC through an American Association of Community College (AACC) Bridges to Health Communities grant, 1998-2001. She created this Powerpoint presentation based upon deep interest in bringing SL to SBCC, as well as her many experiences at conferences, her personal research, and her collaboration with Robert Ehrmann, Director of the Career Advancement Center. They will share with the CTL in the fall the most current information on service learning as it applies to Santa Barbara City College.
